Ross Miller joined the IU Alumni Association for the same reasons as most alumni — to support and advocate for IU, to connect with other IU alums, and to gather with them with them for athletic and cultural events. For Miller it’s become more — he leads one of the largest chapters outside of Indiana.

Just three days after graduating from IU, Ross moved to Denver.

“Initially, I got connected with the IUAA because — being new to [Colorado] — I was looking to connect with other IU alumni out here,” he says. “I wanted to connect with people with similar backgrounds and interests, especially those with an interest in IU sports. And, from there I went to [chapter] events, got involved with the board, and worked my way up to vice president and, ultimately, to president of the Colorado Chapter.”

Along the way, Ross also helped the chapter to expand its scope. When alums in Fort Collins and Colorado Springs canvassed the group to put on IU-related events in those locations, the Denver Chapter eventually grew into a statewide chapter.

Ross has enjoyed taking on leadership roles over the past few years. He cites the annual Alumni Chapter Leaders Conference in Bloomington for helping shape his focus and vision for the Colorado Chapter, which now maintains a year-round roster of activities from game watches to special events like Indiana Day and Hoosier Halloween.

Ross looks forward to developing new ways of staying connected with IU and its alumni in the future. “I couldn’t be more excited about the direction in which we are going,” he says. “That’s really how and why I got involved. And it’s the reason I am still involved, continuing to work hard, constantly improving, and coming up with new ideas to create more value for IUAA members out here.”
