Alumni E-mail Account Holders:
Avoid Phishing Scams
Some alumni e-mail account holders – those whose e-mails end in alumni.iu.edu – have reported receiving e-mails requesting usernames and passphrases. These e-mails and their related Web pages may appear to come from Indiana University or the IU Alumni Association, but IU and the IUAA do not request sensitive personal information through e-mails.
Do not respond to any e-mail requesting account information, usernames, passwords, passphrases, or other sensitive, personal information and do not click on any links included in such an e-mail.
These e-mails may appear to come from a legitimate institution or someone you know. To help protect yourself from phishing scams, beware of any e-mail that:
- Requests any sort of personal account numbers, information, or data
- Urges you to act quickly or your account may be closed
- Does not address you by name, or
- Asks you to “verify your account”
Your security is important to us. Please take the steps listed above to protect yourself from phishing scams.
