Governance

Meet the Board of Managers

The Board of Managers is a board governing the Executive Council. It provides general supervision of the Alumni Association’s business and is made up of the IUAA executive director, immediate past chair, and five officers. This group meets three to four times a year. IUAA members vote for the Board of Manager officers, who serve a one-year term. In December 2010, the Executive Council voted to expand the Board of Managers to 14 members. This increase will be implemented over the next three years.

Christopher Barlow

Christopher L. Craft, BS’89, Chairman
Mishawaka, IN

Chris is senior vice president and commercial banking regional manager for Lake City Bank, where he leads the team serving business markets in the Elkhart and South Bend, Ind., area. Chris is a past president of the IU South Bend Alumni Association and a past chairman of the IUSBAA scholarship program. He has served on the IUSB Business School Advisory Board, IUSB Chancellor’s Advisory Board, and the IUAA Executive Council. He is an IUAA life member, as well as a member of the IUAA 1854 Society and the IUSB Titan 250. Chris and his wife, Kelly, live in Mishawaka, Ind., and have three children.

Nancy Hamblin

Nancy L. Hamblin, BS’78, MS’82, Chairwoman-Elect
Munster, IN

Nancy retired on June 8, 2011 after a 22-year career as an educator for the School Town of Munster, Crown Point Community Schools, and Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township. A life member of the IUAA, she serves as the scholarship coordinator and board member of the Lakeshore Region Chapter of the IUAA. Previously, Hamblin served terms as an at-large member and chapter network representative on the IUAA Executive Council and as an alumni student recruiter. She lives in Munster, Ind., with her husband, Jim, BA’77, DDS’81. They are the parents of two IU graduates.

Jefferson Shreve

Jefferson Shreve, BA’89, Vice Chairman
Bloomington, IN

Jefferson is a business owner and investor. Now Indiana’s largest self-storage operator, Jeff founded Storage Express after he finished his IU degree. He has served on the alumni board of the College of Arts and Sciences and the board of the Jacobs School’s Friends of Music. Jeff is a life member of the IUAA, as well as a member of the IUAA 1854 Society, the Well House Society, Varsity Club, and the President’s Circle. He resides in both Bloomington, Ind., and Indianapolis.

Barbara A. Popp

Barbara Popp, BS’76, Treasurer
New Albany, IN

Barbara is CEO and principal broker for Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services, the largest real-estate firm in Southern Indiana. She also serves as a director on the Federal Reserve Board of St. Louis, Louisville branch. Barbara previously served as president of the IU Southeast Alumni Association and on the IUAA Executive Council. A life member of the IUAA, She received the IUAA President’s Award in 1994 and the IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008. Barbara lives in New Albany, Ind., with her two children.

Patrick O'Connor

Patrick J. O’Connor, BS’74, Secretary
Indianapolis, IN

Patrick is executive vice president at City Securities Corporation in Indianapolis. From 1975 to 1988, he served as board member, vice president, and president of the IUAA’s Indianapolis Men’s Club. A letterwinner, Patrick held leadership roles in the I-Men’s Association for the IUAA and served as the first president of the I Association. He is a past member of the IUAA’s Executive Council and the Varsity Club Board of Directors. Patrick received the Clevenger Award in 1999 and the IUAA President’s Award in 2009. He and his wife, Cynthia (Garrett), BS’76, have four children and live in Indianapolis.

Michael Barlow

Michael Barlow, BFA’85, Immediate Past Chairman
Chicago, IL

Michael is a professional artist and arts educator. He teaches at the School of Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College Chicago, and visual arts programs for at-risk and underserved youth at the Marwen Art Foundation. Michael maintains Barlow Fine Arts Studio, and his works have been exhibited nationally. He is a former member at large on the IUAA Executive Council. Michael and his wife, Gwendolyn May-Barlow, live in Chicago.

 
Nathan Feltman

Nathan Feltman, BS/BA’92, JD’94, At Large
Indianapolis, IN

Nathan is co-owner and president of Home Health Depot Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis. In addition, he is an executive in residence for an IU Kelley School of Business MBA class. From 2006 to 2008, Nathan served as secretary of commerce for the state of Indiana and served as a member of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels’s cabinet. He is past president and board member of the School of Law–Indianapolis Alumni Association and previously served on the board of directors of BioCrossroads, BioCrossroads Linx, and BioCrossroads Seed Fund.

Robert Hayes Robert L. Hayes Sr., BGS’95, At Large
Kokomo, IN

Robert is a product-line purchasing leader at Delphi Electronics and Safety in Kokomo, Ind. He serves as the IU Kokomo representative to the IU Continuing Studies Alumni Association board of directors and on Chancellor Michael Harris’s transition team. Robert is the past president of the IU Kokomo Alumni Association’s board of directors. For his volunteer service to the IU Alumni Association and the IU Kokomo campus, he received the IUAA President’s Award in 2006. Robert lives in Kokomo with his wife, Reba.
Anthony Nastase Anthony Nastase, Student Representative
Indianapolis, IN

Tony is a junior at IUPUI majoring in biochemistry. A Bepko Scholar and a Valedictorian Scholarship recipient, he anticipates graduating in 2013 with a bachelor of science degree. An active Student Organization for Alumni Relations member, Tony has served as a student ambassador since his freshman year. He is the vice president and executive director of the 2011 IUPUI Regatta. Tony is highly involved in the recently founded Honors College, where he served as the 2010–11 president of the Honors Hall Council. He is from LaPorte, Ind.
JT Forbes J Thomas Forbes, BA’90, MPA’96, IUAA Executive Director
Bloomington, IN

J T. Forbes was appointed executive director of the IU Alumni Association on June 1, 2010. He returned to the university after a stint in the private sector, where he served as director of state government relations for Cummins Inc. and a principal private sector staff leader for the United States – Brazil CEO Forum chartered by the US and Brazilian governments. An experienced higher education leader, Forbes served in communications, marketing, public affairs, and government relations roles at IU and Michigan State University and provided consulting on these issues for other major public research and land grant colleges. Forbes was president of the student body on the Bloomington campus and founded the All University Student Assembly and later served as a trustee of Indiana University. He has three children.
