Board of Managers

The Board of Managers provides general management and supervision of the affairs of the association. The board consists of the chair, chair-elect, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer — each of whom is elected to a one-year term — as well as the IUAA president and CEO and the immediate past chair.

Donna Berry Spears, BS’79, MPA’81, is a real estate consultant with Lingle Real Estate. Spears served as a member-at-large on the IUAA’s Executive Council and as secretary for the Board of Managers. She has held positions on the board of the Society of the Friends of Music and the Monroe County, Ind. Chapter of the IUAA. Spears has also served as a member of the IU East Advisory Board and the IUAA Strategic Directions Task Force in 2004-05. A life member of the IUAA, in 2006 she received the Gertrude Rich Award for her contributions to the IU Alumni Association. Spears and her husband, Alan, BS’79, MPA’81, JD’90, live in Richmond, Ind.

Michael Barlow, BFA’85, is a professional practicing artist and arts educator. He teaches visual arts programs for inner-city at-risk youth at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia College Chicago, and the Marwen Art Foundation. Barlow conducts professional-development workshops for teachers with the Chicago Public School system as well as with national Advanced Placement Summer Institutes for high school teachers. He maintains an art studio practice and business, and his works have been exhibited nationally. Barlow is a former at-large member of the Executive Council. He and his wife, Gwendolyn May-Barlow, live in Chicago.

Christopher L. Craft, BS’89, is senior vice president and commercial banking regional manager for Lake City Bank, where he leads the team serving the Elkhart and South Bend, Ind.-area business markets. Craft is the immediate past president of the IU South Bend Alumni Association and past chairman of the IUSBAA scholarship program. He has served on the IUSB Business School Advisory Board, IUSB Chancellor’s Advisory Board, and the IUAA Executive Council. He is an IUAA life member as well as a member of the IUAA 1854 Society, IUSB Titan 250, and the IU Varsity Club. Craft and his wife, Kelly, live in South Bend and have three children – Collin, Michael, and Katherine.

Barbara A. Popp, BS’76, is CEO and principal broker for Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services, the largest real-estate firm in Southern Indiana. She currently serves as a director on the Federal Reserve Board of St. Louis, Louisville Branch. Popp previously served as president of the IU Southeast Alumni Association and on the IUAA Executive Council. A life member of the IUAA, Popp received the IUAA President’s Award in 1994 and the IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008. Popp lives in New Albany, Ind., with her two children, Kristin and Kendall Kemp. Kristin is a freshman at IU Southeast.

Brian P. Williams, BA’78, JD’81, was born and reared in Evansville, Ind., where he is currently a partner at Kahn, Dees, Donovan & Kahn, LLP. He serves as president on the IU Maurer School of Law Alumni Board and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Maurer School of Law in 1998. Williams has served on the IUAA Strategic Directions Task Force, the IUAA Executive Council, and is a former officer of the Greater Evansville Chapter of the IUAA. He has served as president and member of the board of directors of the Evansville Bar Association, the Vanderburgh County Law Library Foundation, the Legal Aid Society, and the Buffalo Trace Council Boy Scouts of America. Williams has served on many other community boards of directors. He and his wife, Barbara Coyle Williams, JD’79, have two children: Seth, a second year law student at the IU Maurer School of Law, and Nathan, a senior in the Mitte Honors Program in the IU Kelley School of Business.

Stephen C. Moberly, BA’63, LLB’66, retired in 2006 after a 40 year career. For 30 years, he practiced law in Shelbyville, Ind., and then served 10 years as the CEO of the not-for-profit Indiana Retired Teachers Association. An IUAA life member, Moberly is a former member of the Executive Council and chaired the IUAA Strategic Directions Task Force in 2004-05. He currently serves as president of the Society of Aeons and is a past president of the John Whittenberger Society and of the Shelby County Chapter of the IUAA. He received the IUAA President’s Award in 1995. He and his wife, Sandy (Schultz), BS’63, have lived in Bloomington since 2004.

Thomas A. Martz, BS’72, earned his IU degree in education and completed graduate coursework at Indiana Central University, now the University of Indianapolis. He studied at the U.S. Army Finance School, and while at IUB, he was director of the Student Alumni Association and participated in Army ROTC. He was director of the IU Student Foundation from 1979-83. Martz began his tenure as CEO at the IUAA on April 1, 2007. Previously, he was vice president for advancement at the University of Alabama. From 1998-2005, he worked at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, as first associate vice chancellor for development and campaign director, and later as vice chancellor for university relations. He and his wife, Mary, live in Bloomington.
