Meet the Board of Managers

The Board of Managers governs the Executive Council. It provides general supervision, fiduciary oversight, and strategic planning for the IU Alumni Association’s business. It is currently made up of 13 volunteers and IUAA's CEO. This group meets three to four times a year. IUAA members vote for the Board of Managers officers, who serve one-year terms, and the at-large members of the Board, who serve three-year terms.

Nathan Feltman

Nathan Feltman, BS/BA’92, JD’94 
Chairman, 2016-2017

Carmel, Ind. 

Nate is co-owner and president of Home Health Depot Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis, Ind. From 2006 to 2008, Feltman served as Secretary of Commerce for the state of Indiana and served as a member of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels’s cabinet. Feltman has been a partner with the law firms Faegre Baker Daniels and Ice Miller in Indianapolis, Ind., and Altheimer & Gray in Chicago, Ill. Feltman served as an adjunct professor at the Robert H. McKinney School of Law where he taught Russian Law and also served as an Executive in Residence at a Kelley School of Business MBA class focused on international business in Russia. He is past president and board member of the Robert H. McKinney School of Law Alumni Association. He and his wife, Jo-Ann, live in Carmel, Ind., and have two children.

Brieanna Quinn

Brieanna Quinn, BS'01, MA'04
Chairwoman-elect, 2016-2017

Indianapolis, Ind.

With a decade of higher-education and development experience, Brieanna has served professional roles with the IU Foundation as associate director of the Well House Society, director of the 1820 Society, and director of annual giving for the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis. Quinn currently volunteers as board representative on the Membership Task Force. She has most recently served on the Central Indiana Chapter of the IUAA’s alumni board as well as the alumni board of IU Dance Marathon and was president of the Jacksonville, Fla., Chapter of the IUAA. Quinn is the Indiana development director for Stand for Children and lives in Indianapolis, Ind.

Robert Johnson

Robert Johnson, BA'88
Vice Chairman, 2016-2017

San Francisco, Calif.

Prior to graduating from Indiana University, Robert accepted an offer from Procter & Gamble Co. (1988-1990) then, later, was recruited to Kraft Foods. In 2015, Johnson finished his career at Kraft Foods (1990-2015) as a Customer Vice President - Sales / National Accounts. His Kraft Foods journey encompassed 25 years, 14 positions, 4+ headquarters assignments, and approx. 20 years of leadership/managing roles. Johnson gained experience in retail (store level), general management, supply chain/logistics (all forms), strategic planning & client marketing, consumer insights, brand development, client cultivation, and playing to win...always.

Early on, he utilized his Indiana University Student Association (Student Government) Vice President - Administration (1987-1988) leadership experiences to assist where and how he could. Parallel to his corporate journey, he leveraged
previous coast-to-coast leadership roles and intraprenuerial skills for both
domestic and international initiatives. Johnson resides in the San Francisco Bay Area, Calif.

Larry Lentych

Larry Lentych, BS'69
Secretary, 2016-2017

Edwardsburg, Mich.

Larry retired as senior vice president and chief financial officer at 1st Source Bank in South Bend. He has been president of the IU South Bend Alumni Board and vice chairman of that campus’s Chancellor’s Advisory Board as well as a member of the Chancellor’s 100. Additionally, Lentych served as community captain for Hoosiers for Higher Education and on the Executive Council as an IUSB Alumni Association Representative. His honors include the IUAA President’s Award in 2002, the IU South Bend Distinguished Alumni Award in 2005, and the IU South Bend School of Business and Economics Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009. He and his wife, Judy, live in Edwardsburg, Mich.

Deanna Crispen

Deanna Crispen, BA'98
Treasurer, 2016-2017

Logansport, Ind.

Deanna is the president of the Cass County Community Foundation where she has worked since 2005. She served on the IU Kokomo Alumni Association board from 2000-2009 and led the group as president in 2006-2008. Her committee work includes service with Investment Committee, Strategic Planning, and the 1854 Taskforce for the Alumni Association. She continues to volunteer on the Finance Committee and in the Cass County Chapter of the IUAA. She earned the Outstanding Alumni Award from the IU Kokomo School of Arts and Sciences in 2005, the Outstanding Service Award for that campus in 2010, and the IUAA President’s Award in 2004. Her honors also include the Cass County Business Woman of the Year in 2005, and the City of Logansport Spirit of the Community Award in 2013. She and her husband, Steve, reside in Logansport, Ind., and have two daughters, both IU alumnae, and four grandchildren. 

Barbara Popp White Jacket

Barbara Popp, BS'76
Immediate Past Chairwoman, 2016-2017

New Albany, Ind.

Barbara is a partner at Popp Wardlaw & Associates as well as president and managing broker for Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services, the largest real-estate firm in Southern Indiana. She also serves as the president of the Louisville Branch Board of the St. Louis Federal Reserve District. Popp previously served as president of the IU Southeast Alumni Association and on the IUAA Executive Council. A life member of IUAA, Popp received the IUAA President’s Award in 1994, IU Southeast Distinguished Alumni Award in 2008, and IU Southeast Chancellor's Medallion in 2015. Popp lives in New Albany, Ind., with her two children, Kristin and Kendall.

Jerry Miles

Jerry Miles, BA'98

New Albany, Ind.

Jerry has served IU through the IUAA Executive Council, the Woodburn Guild, Hoosiers For Higher Education, the Kelley School of Business Alumni Board, and the national Neal-Marshall Alumni Club, just to name a few. A life member of the IU Alumni Association, Miles has also been a member of the IUAA External Audit Committee, the IU Southeast Board of Advisors, and the IU-Bloomington Athletics Committee. He was honored with the IUAA President’s Award in 2008 and the IU Southeast Chancellor’s Medallion in 2005. As a community leader, he is chairman of the Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services Board of Trustees. He is retired from PNC Bank. Miles and his wife, Alice, live in New Albany, Ind.

Lorelle Swader, BA'84, MLS'86

Harvey, Ill.

Lorelle is director of the Office for Human Resource Development & Recruitment (HRDR) and the Allied Professional Association (APA) of the American Library Association. She served on the School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) Alumni Board from 2006-2013, and the Executive Council as the SLIS Alumni Association Representative beginning in 2008.  She was recently appointed to the Advisory Board for the Library and Information Science Department of the School of Informatics at IUPUI. In addition to life membership in the IUAA, she is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) where she earned the designation of Certified Association Executive (CAE). She’s a proud alumna of the IU African American Choral Ensemble and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority. Swader lives in Harvey, Ill., with her husband, Lawrence.

Larry Alt

Larry Alt, BS'68, MBA'78

Valparaiso, Ind.

Larry is the owner of Larry Alt & Associates, a marketing firm in Northwest Indiana. In addition, he is a licensed Indiana Real Estate Broker. He received his BS in Radio & Television Education from IU in 1968 and his MSBA from IUSB in 1978. He served four years in the United States Army, with a one-year tour in Vietnam. As an entrepreneur, Alt has started five new companies and holds three US Patents. A life member of IUAA, Alt received the President’s Award in 2014, is currently the President of the IUAA Lakeshore Chapter and has served on the IUAA Executive Council’s Finance Committee.  Alt is on the Board of Directors of TradeWinds Services in Northwest Indiana and is the former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lakeshore Public Television, a position he held for seven years. Alt is single, has one son and two grandchildren and resides in Valparaiso, Ind.

Jeannie Sager

Jeannie Sager, MA'03

Carmel, Ind.

Jeannie serves as director of major gifts at IU Health Methodist Hospital. A development professional for 20 years, Sager has previously worked at the IU School of Medicine as director for the Dean's Council and Special Programs, as well as for the IU Foundation in Indianapolis. She started her career as a development associate at Rollins College where she also earned her bachelor's degree in International Relations. She is also a long-time member of the Alumni Council of IUPUI. She and her family reside in Carmel, Ind.

Lori Pearson, BS'01

Indianapolis, Ind.

Lori is an account executive with Holland-Parlette Associates, an association management company with offices in Indianapolis and San Francisco. She has more than 20 years of experience in event/meeting planning and has been with Holland-Parlette for more than 11 years, managing membership-based national and international non-profit associations. Pearson is former IUAA director of special events, has served on the IUAA Executive Council, and is an active member of the IUAA Central Indiana Chapter. She has served on the Central Indiana Chapter Board since 2005 in a number of leadership roles, most recently as president and, since June 30, as past president. She assists the Carmel Road Racing Group as volunteer coordinator for a number of running events.

Vi Simpson, LLB'94, LHD'13

Bloomington, Ind.

Vi is a retired attorney, state senator, and (lieutenant) gubernatorial candidate.
Her life in public service began in 1980 when she was elected to the office of
Monroe County auditor. In 1984, she was elected as a member of the Indiana
State Senate, representing the 40th District, which included Monroe, Brown,
Greene, and Owen Counties. She served on numerous committees in the Senate,
including Appropriations and Health and Provider Services committees. She
served as chair of the joint Budget Committee and was elected by her colleagues
as minority leader, the first woman to serve in both those positions. She was
nominated in 2012 as the Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, running
with former Speaker of the House of Representatives John R. Gregg, BA’76, JD’84.
Most recently, Simpson has developed a report and recommendations for enhancing the IUAA travel program and was appointed by President McRobbie to serve on
 the External Advisory Committee for the IU Grand Challenges Grants. She currently serves on the Boards of Directors for the Bloomington/Monroe County Community Foundation, IU Health-Bloomington Hospital, and the Sycamore Land Trust.

Jalen Watkins

Jalen Watkins
Student Representative 2016-2017

Naperville, Ill.

Jalen is a junior majoring in political science and economics with the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington. He currently serves as vice president of Congress with the IU Student Association, is on the board of directors for the Student Transportation Board, and is the president of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. In the summer of 2015, he served as financial analyst intern with Wells Fargo in Indianapolis. As a sustainability advocate, he is executive director of Green Bikes, a bike sharing program, and an outreach participant in the Monroe County Energy Challenge. Watkins is also on the Alumni Relations Committee for Theta Chi and is a Hudson & Holland Scholar.

JT Forbes

J Thomas Forbes, BA’90, MPA’96
Chief Executive Officer

Bloomington, Ind.

J T. was appointed CEO of the IU Alumni Association on June 1, 2010. He returned to the university after a stint in the private sector, where he served as director of state government relations for Cummins Inc. and a principal private sector staff leader for the United States – Brazil CEO Forum chartered by the US and Brazilian governments. An experienced higher education leader, Forbes served in communications, marketing, public affairs, and government relations roles at IU and Michigan State University and provided consulting on these issues for other major public research and land grant colleges. Forbes was president of the student body on the Bloomington campus, founded the All University Student Assembly, and later served as a trustee of Indiana University. He has three children.
