  1. Engage more alumni and students
  2. Strengthen resources
  3. Increase impact and awareness of IUAA

Goals 2005-06

  1. Review and determine priorities for action:
    1. Strategic Directions Task Force Recommendations (2005-10)
ACTION:  Most of the recommendations have been acted on already.
    2. IUB Student Task Force Recommendations
ACTION:  The key recommendations have been acted on and others have been studied for future action.
    3. Alumni Chapters Task Force Recommendations
ACTION:  The key recommendations have been acted on and others have been studied for future action.
  2. Appoint the following groups:
    1. Task force to study IUAA travel program
ACTION:  Task Force appointed and is conducting its study.
    2. IUAA History Committee (standing committee of Executive Council)
ACTION:  Committee appointed and has met.
    3. IUAA 1854 Society Committee (standing committee of Executive Council)
ACTION:  Committee appointed and has met several times.
    4. Schools’ constituent society task force
ACTION:  Task Force appointed and is conducting its study.
    5. Regional campuses’ constituent society task force
ACTION:  Due to vacancies in two campuses’ alumni offices, study delayed to the 2006-07 school year.
    6. Regional campuses’ student task forces (local appointments)
ACTION:  Task Forces appointed and final reports with recommendations have been submitted.  IU Northwest task force appointment delayed pending selection of new campus alumni director.
    7. IUPUI undergraduate and graduate student task forces (local appointments)
ACTION:  Task Forces appointed and final reports with recommendations are being prepared.
  3. Establish alumni-to-alumni and alumni-to-student online mentoring programs.
ACTION:  An alumni-to-alumni online mentoring program, IUAlumniCareers.com, was launched in January 2006.
  4. Conduct membership summit and determine need for IUAA-wide, ongoing membership effort.
ACTION:  Membership summit was conducted and numerous actions have been undertaken.  Discussion continues on how to effectively engage IUAA staff and key volunteers in ongoing effort.
  5. Develop IUAA-wide, ongoing campaign to increase e-mail addresses with target of 100,000 by end of fiscal year.
ACTION:  E-mail addresses increased to 135,000.  A task force was appointed to determine how to engage IUAA staff and key volunteers in an ongoing effort.
  6. Reach $8 million - $10 million in cash and commitments to IUAA operating endowment by end of calendar 2005.
ACTION:  Campaign was completed with more than $8 million raised.
  7. Increase involvement of volunteer leadership by minority alumni, especially in the Chapter program. (A survey completed in Feb. 2005 showed that 11% of the IUAA alumni leaders are minority. It is estimated that 8% of the graduates are minority. Only 4% of the chapter leaders were minority, so the IUAA will especially try to increase minority participation in that program area.)
ACTION:  The percentage of minority members of our alumni boards overall fell from 11 percent to nine percent.   Eight percent of IU graduates whose ethnicity is known are minority.  The percentage of minority leaders of our constituent societies, affiliate groups, and the Executive Council is in the teens.  But minority participation in our Chapter boards is only four percent.  (The percentage of minorities on IUAA staff at IUB increased from 8.5 percent to more than nine percent.)
  8. Develop an IUAA communication plan. (Appoint oversight committee to work with communications department to develop visual standards and style guidelines; identify and prioritize audience segments, create custom messages for each, and develop and promote communications plan for IUAA.)
ACTION:  Standards, guidelines, templates, and forms published on new Website.  Final plan is goal/strategy for 2006-07.
  9. Develop reporting tools for alumni data for IUAA and the university. (In the form of software that will provide detailed or summarized data analysis)
ACTION:  Substantive actions in this area were achieved.  Event Tracker software began to be used in December 2005.
  10. Collaborate with university entities to provide alumni with easier access to IU’s lifelong learning offerings.
ACTION:  Several actions have been undertaken: podcasting of Mini University lectures was implemented in June 2006.
  11. Review IU Trustee election process, with University Librarian and Office of Trustees.
ACTION:  The review process began and will continue in fall 2006 with a study by the IU Kelley School of Business MBA program.
