President’s Message
Greetings!

IUAAA President Jessica Kim
Greetings fellow alumni and friends! This year I have the distinct honor and pleasure of serving as President for the Indiana University Asian Alumni Association. To begin, I am very pleased to recount several successful events that occurred last year in 2007. In April, the IU Asian Alumni Association co-sponsored the Asian Culture Center Senior Awards Banquet, an annual banquet where graduating Asian students and Asian student organization leaders are recognized for their achievements. During the banquet, the association had the opportunity to award Dr. Yoshito Kawahara with the second ever Distinguished Asian Alumni Award, an award provided by the IU Asian Alumni Association in recognition for outstanding achievements of Asian Pacific American men and women of Indiana University. During the fall semester, we hosted two social events at venues located in Bloomington, in September and October and participated in the annual IU Homecoming Parade.
Prior to these fall events, we were pleased to acquire two new association board members – Sophia Travis and Norris Wang. The association board members, with the help of our two newest additions, are excited to provide our fellow Asian alumni and friends with several upcoming opportunities and events in 2008. One of the major celebrations we look forward to participating in is the tenth anniversary of the Asian Culture Center which takes place in September, 2008. Please stay tuned for announcements and event schedules pertaining to the events centered on this occasion as well as many others.
In addition to participating and organizing events for our Asian alumni and friends, we are focused on achieving several goals this year. These include establishing stronger relationships with IU Asian student organization members (our future members), improving our communication efforts with our members by updating our communications systems, website, etc. and fortifying our network and relationships with fellow Asian alumni through the provision of more IU Asian alumni events and opportunities.
The IU Asian Alumni Association, an affiliate IU Alumni Association group, was established only a few years ago in August 2005 and is still very young. However, we are growing! But, our success is not possible without your support and involvement. If you would like to get involved, or have any comments or questions; please feel free to contact me. On behalf of the Asian Alumni Association board, we send our warmest wishes and hope to see you at one of our next future events!
