Distinguished Asian/Pacific American Alumni Award of Indiana University
About the Award
Purpose
The purpose of the Distinguished APA Alumni Award is to
recognize outstanding achievements of APA men and women of Indiana University.
Eligibility
Nominees must meet the following requirements:
- Only living IU alumni who reside in the United States are eligible. For purposes of definition, an alumnus is any person who has graduated from any of the schools or campuses of Indiana University.
- The nominee has been outstanding in his/her chosen field of endeavor; and/or
- The nominee has made significant contributions benefiting his/her community, state, nation, or university.
Nature of the Award
The award shall consist of a plaque.
Nominations
- Nominations may be submitted by: (1) any school of Indiana University; (2) any alumnus of Indiana University; or (3) any faculty or staff member of Indiana University.
- All nominations must be in writing and accompanied by supporting documentation, a brief rationale for nomination, and current contact information of the nominee and the individual making the nomination.
- The nomination form is available online and may also be obtained from the Indiana University Asian Alumni Office.
- Nominations may be submitted online, by email, or in a sealed envelope and postmarked no later than midnight, February 29, 2008.
- All nominations should be addressed to Clarence Boone, Director of Alumni Programs, IU Alumni Association, DeVault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, Indiana 47408, or Melanie Castillo-Cullather, Director, IU Asian Culture Center, 807 E. 10th St., Bloomington, IN 47408.
- All nominations for the award will automatically be continued in force for the following four successive years. After that they may be resubmitted.
Selection of Recipients
- The selection committee will be comprised of the Asian Alumni Association board, the previous award winner, and an IU faculty or staff member. This committee maintains the integrity of the nomination process and selects the award recipient.
- It will be the duty of the aforementioned committee to make the final selection of the recipient of the award.
- Each member of the committee shall serve a minimum term of one year to a maximum of five years.
Recipients
- The Asian Alumni Association strongly suggests the awards be made to individuals in as many fields of endeavor as possible (education, law, medicine, business, science, music, etc.)
- The recipient must be present to receive the award.
- The awards shall be given at the Senior and Student Leaders Banquet during the last Friday of April. The recipients shall be announced shortly before that date.
