The Chicago Chapter of the IU Alumni Association
Upcoming Events
Full Calendar >>Welcome!
The Chicago Chapter of the IU Alumni Association is the largest chapter outside Indiana, with more than 4,000 members. The chapter is a part of the IU Alumni Association’s worldwide chapter network. Our mission is to connect Chicagoland IU alumni with the university and each other. While doing so, we will make a positive impact on our community and the way it views IU.
You may use this Web site to find out about our upcoming events and activities, obtain information on membership, access the homepage of the IU Alumni Association, or contact a chapter officer.
May Book Club
Each month the Chicago Chapter Book Club picks a new fiction book to read and discuss. All IU alumni are welcome to participate.
The May book selection is Then We Came to an End by Joshua Ferris.
The club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Bucktown/Wicker Park Branch Library, 1701 N. Milwaukee Ave. It is near the Damen Blue Line stop, and there is plenty of parking near the building.
If you are interested in participating, R.S.V.P. with Olivia Silver.
We look forward to seeing you there!
2007 Recap
2007 was another tremendous year for our IUAA Chicago Chapter. Diversity was a key focus for us. Beyond the numerous IU sports’ and coaches’ events that we host each year in Chicago, our goal was to appeal to a broader alumni audience.
You may have noticed that in 2007 alone the following events were enjoyed by local IU alumni:
- The IU Dining Tour – Each month we selected a different restaurant in and around Chicago to experience. This has been an excellent new and consistent addition to our lineup of events and has brought alumni of all ages and backgrounds together. Additionally, our alumni gathered at the Thomas Robertello Art Gallery in December to enjoy wine and cheese.
- Straight No Chaser – IU’s student acappella group from Bloomington performed for us in March at a concert in the suburbs as well as downtown.
- Community Service – Primarily in the suburbs, IU alumni helped with two food drives, volunteers acted as "A Principal For a Day" at different local elementary schools, we hosted an event for the American Cancer Society, we planted trees in May at the Pritzker School, and organized a blood drive. We also sent a volunteer group to a family camp in Elkhart, Wis. called Camp Brosius.
- IU Travel – We organized a Chicagoland group of alumni to travel to Beijing, China in November through the IU Travels program.
This just touches on the wide array of events IU alumni participated in this past year. And as you will see, we are excited to begin 2008 with a visit from our new IU President Michael McRobbie. Other new twists to our Chapter lineup include an IU Book Club, as well as a concert by IU's very own Grammy Award-winning violinist Joshua Bell.
Lastly, I would like to extend a special thanks to our Chicago Chapter Board members. The local chapter board consists of 100 percent volunteers and should be commended for their great efforts this past year. Great job Hoosiers & Go IU!
