Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship
The Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship is a financial aid opportunity for Chinese applicants who enroll in the Master of Laws (LL.M.) Program in American Law for Foreign Lawyers at the Indiana University School of Law–Indianapolis. In order to promote communication between the law circles of China and the U.S. and improve the knowledge of Chinese lawyers, the Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship has successfully delivered dozens of qualified Chinese applicants to the LL.M. program.
Founded in 2002, the Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship, first known as the Skyline Scholarship, was set up by the Indiana University School of Law–Indianapolis to make it possible for Chinese applicants to pursue their educations in the LL.M. program. As the initial partner of Skyline Law Firm, lawyer Zhou Li-Ying visited the School of Law–Indianapolis for the first time in 1996 and was appointed as its official liaison in China one year later. In 2003, in order to commend Zhou Li-Ying’s effort on promoting the communication between Chinese and American jurisprudential circles, the School of Law–Indianapolis renamed the Skyline Scholarship as the Zhou Li-Ying scholarship and appointed her as its exclusive agent for the recruitment of Chinese lawyers and law graduates for its LL.M. program.
The LL.M. program at the Indiana University School of Law–Indianapolis, which was initiated in 2001 and approved by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and American Bar Association, is a logical extension of the law school’s existing J.D. program and the expanding international outreach. In fact, IU Law–Indianapolis has a long history of communicating with law schools in China. Its China Law Summer Program, which started in the 1980s, first based in Shanghai at East China University of Politics and Law and now in Beijing at Renmin (People’s) University of China, has been one of the most popular curriculums for American students.
Lawyer Zhou said that the Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship is not only a financial aid, but also an honor. At present, the Zhou Li-Ying Scholarship is still the only scholarship that helps Chinese students to learn in the United States with the name of a Chinese lawyer. We invite you to the LL.M. Program in American Law for Foreign Lawyers at the Indiana University School of Law–Indianapolis to expand your knowledge and to prepare yourself to meet the challenges and opportunities in an interconnected world.
