Eighth Annual Hoosier Halloween, October 14, 2007
Everyone’s a winner at Hoosier Halloween! Hoosier Halloween has had eight successful years and keeps growing. The Eighth Annual Hoosier Halloween was held on the new campus of The Children’s Hospital, located in Aurora, Colo., just two weeks after it opened.
One for the records! Eleven stations of games and giveaways were set up in the Boettcher Atrium where 27 IU alumni and friends interacted with patients and their families for a day of Halloween fun. For those patients physically able, a new station of "Halloween Twister" was added this year.
As always, a huge thank you to all of the IU alumni and friends who helped to continue this tradition. A special thanks to those who provided additional services to our event: Mike Dunkle, magician; Tamara Tannenbaum, face painter; Sherry Merrill and Steve Treat, pumpkins; and Sarah Pickel, cookies and frosting.
Mark your calendars! The Ninth Annual Hoosier Halloween will be held on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2009 from 1 to 3 p.m. at in the Boettcher Atrium of The Children’s Hospital.

IU Cares/Habitat for Humanity Community Service Day April 19
The IUAA and its chapters have embraced and supported community service activities for many years. In an effort to make an even stronger impact on community outreach, the IUAA is pleased to announce IU Cares Month.
In April 2008, IUAA chapters across the United States will participate in community service projects and activities. In some in-state areas, our IUAA student organizations will also take part and work alongside our alumni chapters on a special day of caring, April 19. We are very excited about this endeavor and know that our chapters, Indiana University, and our communities nationwide will benefit from the program.
The Denver Chapter has selected Habitat for Humanity as its IU Cares project. We will be working on a Habitat build in Commerce City on Saturday, April 19. Here are the details:
- There are 15 volunteer spots available. A full-day commitment is required of volunteers, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is imperative that everyone arrive promptly at 9 a.m. or preferably a few minutes before. Every volunteer must be present for a safety orientation per OSHA standards, so if volunteers arrive after the safety orientation, they will not be able to stay.
- All volunteers must be at least 16 years of age; no one under the age of 16 is allowed onto the site for safety reasons. Volunteers ages 16 to 17 must have a youth waiver signed by their parent or guardian in order to participate.
- No previous construction experience is ever required at a Habitat site. Tools, hardhats, and safety glasses are provided for your use.
- Bring a water bottle and sunscreen. Lunch will be provided (see below)! Wear layers of clothing and sturdy, closed shoes (no sandals, flip flops, or Crocs please!) This build will be in its sixth week of construction on April 19. Most of the work will likely involve framing and siding.
- If construction isn’t your cup of tea, here is another way you can volunteer: contact Pam Berke if you would like to help provide lunch to our Indiana alumni and Habitat crew on April 19.
Reserve your volunteer spot by April 9 with Pam Berke,720-529-9091. Open this document for more details and the waiver forms you must fill out and bring with you on April 19.
