2009 Annual Meeting

The Japan Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association held its annual meeting on May 22, 2009 in the Fukoku-Seimei Building. Takeo Nomura, MS’84, professor emeritus of Tsukuba University was the main speaker. Nomura talked about the positive effects of swimming for the health of senior people. His speech included anecdotes about Japanese swimmers in the Beijing Olympics as well as his days in Bloomington.
Business
Yasunori Hattori, chapter president, presented 2008 activity results and 2009 activity plans.
2008 activities are listed below:
- 2008 Annual Meeting was held on May. 28
- Get-together golf was held on July 23
- IU Vice President O’Meara invited five Japan chapter members to dinner at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on Nov. 12.
- Alumni get-together dinner was held in Kobe on Dec. 5
2009 plans include the following events:
- Welcome dinner for MBA students (KIPS program) on March 12
- 2009 alumni annual meeting on May 22
- IU Alumni International Conference in Seoul, June 5-7
- Golf, Sept. 11
- Walk, Oct. 17
- Get-together dinner in Nagoya
- Get-together dinner in Kansai
Yasuhiro Obata, chapter vice president and treasurer, reported the 2008 alumni financial results, which were approved by the attendees. As to the annual election, all current officers and directors were re-elected. Hajime Yokoyama, MBA’08, and Manabu Tanaka, MBA’09, were appointed as new directors to strengthen the network of young alumni members further.
