Alumni Spotlight: November 2006

Crystal Taylor Baker

Degree:
BS'99, Kelley School of Business

Family:
Ernie (husband) and Sable (the yellow lab)

Current Position/Place of Employment:
Banker at Old National Bank

Favorite hangout as an IU student:
I wasn’t really a regular at any one place, except maybe the Chi Phi fraternity house. My freshman year, I could have majored in all-night euchre tournaments (always with coffee and Bailey’s and these great chocolate brownies from Kroger).

What do you enjoy most about living in a college town?
There are so many things to do both on campus and off campus as a result of the university's influence filtering out into the community… art, culture and entertainment around every corner. What is great about Bloomington in particular is that you get all of this plus a lot of Hoosier hospitality. I think that is key to our town/gown success that is not always experienced by other college towns.

Where did you live?
During college, I lived off campus — definitely not made for dorm life.

What is your fondest memory of your years as an IU student?
Being a townie, I knew about the Little 500, and who hasn’t seen Breaking Away? But the student perspective changes everything. My first Little 500 weekend as a student didn’t involve overturned cars and a riot, but it was definitely a blast!
