Alumni Spotlight: August 2007
Elizabeth Kehoe
Degree:
BA in anthropology with an emphasis in archaeology
Family:
One daughter, Ashley Neiswender. Ashley is an undergrad at the IU Kelley School of Business. Additional family members are in northeast Indiana (Fort Wayne is my hometown) and Cape Coral, Fla.
Current Position/Place of Employment:
Professional/Trade Association Executive. I have been working with the Bloomington Board of Realtors since August 2006.
Favorite hangout as an IU student:
I was a student in Bloomington from 1976-79. My frequent hangouts included the Runcible Spoon, coffeehouses, dance clubs, and Nick’s, and I was a regular at the Bluebird. I also worked at the Food Coop and enjoyed area hiking and camping.
What do you enjoy most about living in a college town?
Being around young people helps keep me young. I enjoy and am most familiar with the downtown area. I enjoy wandering downtown and visiting the library, bookstores, and outdoor cafes. The Farmers' Market is a favorite, along with lots of opportunities to get involved in the community.
Where did you live?
I rented small houses with roommates -- my favorite being when a group of us rented a house with all the furnishings, including the house cat and dog, from a professor who was on sabbatical and out of the country. My least favorite house was when it snowed in through the front door and window and my bedroom was without heat.
What is your fondest memory of your years as an IU student?
A New Year's Eve party at the house I rented with five roommates. We had a live jazz band playing in the living room and did a little New Year "meditation" at midnight — so cool!
How you connected with IUAA:
I moved back to Bloomington (27 years later) and didn’t know anyone except for a few students (including my daughter). Connecting with IUAA helped me get to know people in the community. I enjoy getting involved with the community through volunteering and community service projects. IUAA provides these types of projects..
