Kyla Cox

Degree:
BS'02, English and studio art, minor in art history

Family:
Husband, Kevin Cox. I’m part of an IU family who also lives in Bloomington: mother, Debbie (Flanigan) Albert, BSN ’77; stepfather, Fred Albert, BA ’74; brother, Devin Blankenship, BS ’05; and stepsister, Erika Albert, BS ’03, MPA ’05.

Occupation:
Director, Communications and Outreach, IU Bloomington Continuing Studies

Favorite hangouts as an IU student:
Yogi’s, Uncle Fester’s, Bluebird, and Axis

Most enjoyable aspects of living in a college town:
Just about everything! Good restaurants, exciting sporting events, fun bars, and eclectic cultural offerings keep things interesting. The campus scenery is great. I leave my office to find people taking photos by the Sample Gates or the Student Building clock tower and think how surreal it is that they are taking photos they will treasure for a lifetime at the place I work! As a community member, having access to the resources of IU through Continuing Studies courses and other outreach programs is priceless.

Fondest memory of IU as a student:
The men’s basketball 2002 run for the NCAA Championship was (nearly) a dream come true! As a lifelong resident of Bloomington, I will never forget the excitement of the 1987 Championship. To be able to relive that feeling as a senior at IU was the best!

Where did you live?
I lived at home for my first two years and then in an off-campus apartment my last two. It was sometimes a challenge to explain to other students freshman year that I was actually from Bloomington and that living at home for a while wasn’t a bad thing
