Support for Scholarships
Since November 2006, the Monroe County Chapter of the IUAA board of directors have helped local students attend IU with a scholarship fund. This is a bold statement regarding our commitment to giving back to thecommunity.
We would like to see our scholarship program grow each year so we can award more scholarships to Monroe County
- Become a Cream & Crimson Corporate Sponsor ($50 from each sponsorship goes into our scholarship fund).
- Buy one of our "B-town, Our Town" T-shirts (a portion of each sale goes into our scholarship fund).
- Buy a $10 discount card.
- Make a donation to the scholarship fund in your name.
Besides the scholarship being offered by our chapter, there are two other scholarships for which local members may qualify. The IU Alumni Association offers scholarships for the children of IU Alumni Association members and, in addition, offers a scholarship to the child of a local chapter board member. If you believe you qualify for either of these scholarship opportunities, please contact our scholarship chair, Michelle Smith, for additional information.
2009 Scholarship Winners
The Monroe County Chapter awarded two $500 scholarships to Monroe County students bound for the IU Bloomington campus in the fall. Of the 18 applicants, these two stood out with well-rounded resumes and history of service, while maintaining high grade point averages. Both students receiving scholarships this year are from Bloomington South High School. Applications were open to all county high school students entering their freshman year at any of the IU campuses in the fall of 2009.
Katherine Waggoner, daughter of Mary Waggoner and Thomas C. Waggoner, has maintained club involvement and academic excellence while volunteering for the community, for her church, and through opportunities at Bloomington South. She chose IUB due to the campus life that adds to the amazing experiences offered through its programs. Her grandmother, Marianne Dubinsky, served as an inspiration and is admired for overcoming adversity. She has provided a role model for Katherine as a strong-minded, passionate woman.
Very active in sports and clubs at South over the last four years, Uran-Uchig Chimegbaatar is the daughter of Srantsetseg Myagmar. Uran-Uchig chose IU because she was impressed with the 75 foreign languages that are taught on campus and its high level of academic programming. She will call the "beautiful campus" of Bloomington home for at least the next four years where she will focus on international study. She eventually sees herself working for UNICEF using her language skills.
Both women scored well on the SAT and in their final GPAs at South. We welcome them to the IU campus this fall and wish them luck with making IUB their new home.
2008 Monroe County IUAA Scholarship Winners

Kalina Dalecki and Heather Whaley were our Monroe County chapter $500 scholarship recipients for 2008. The seniors were presented with certificates at their respective high school honors programs in May.
Dalecki is graduating from Bloomington High School South this spring and has a 4.1 GPA. She plans to major in finance and political science with a direct admission to the Kelley School of Business. Kalina is the daughter of Jacek Dalecki and Patty Lezotte.
Whaley, daughter of Christine and Greg Whaley, will graduate from Edgewood with a 3.98 GPA. She is uncertain of her major at this time, but is leaning toward telecommunications or physical therapy.
2007 Monroe County IUAA Scholarship winners announced
Thanks to the many people who have purchased our "B-town, Our Town" T-shirts over the past year, the Monroe County IUAA Chapter was able to raise money and award two scholarships to Monroe County high school seniors who will be starting at IU fall 2007.
Nineteen seniors applied for the two scholarships. Congratulations and good luck as IU freshmen!
Winners for 2007
Nicholas Bauer, Bloomington High School South
Nicholas Bauer, son of Jawn and Karen Bauer, is a 2007 Bloomington High School South graduate. An honors student with a 3.988 GPA, he has
earned direct admission to the IU Kelley School of Business where he intends to double major in accounting and finance. At South, Nicholas
served as vice president of the National Honor Society and president of the Amateur Radio Club. He has received many awards including the
Leaders of Tomorrow Award. For the good of our community Nicholas has participated in the Adopt-a-Road program for six years. Bauer says
“I
am very thankful for groups such as the Monroe County Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association who recognize students such as
myself with scholarships. A college education is becoming more of a necessity in our world, and especially in the business world. The high
expense of a college education makes any contribution to help cover the costs even more appreciated. I would like to thank the Monroe County
Chapter of the Indiana University Alumni Association for their generous scholarship. I am proud to be a recipient.”
Kristen Goodman, Edgewood High School
Kristen was an honors student at Edgewood with a 3.98 GPA and served for three years as a Mustang Mentor (an upperclassman who helps to
acclimate incoming freshmen to their new academic environment). Her community service includes Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Bloomington
Hospitality House volunteerism. Kristen is the daughter of Randy and Dee Goodman and granddaughter of Dave and Kay Landis. She plans to study
psychology. “The scholarship meant everything to me,” says Goodman. “It meant that someone cared enough about my future to
help out with college expenses and gave me confidence in my abilities as a student. Thank you so much.”
2006 Scholarship Winner
In 2006, seven students competed for the scholarship. Hana Cleveland, a graduating senior from Bloomington High School
South, received the inaugural Monroe County IUAA Scholarship. Hana, who is considering a major in international studies, received $250 from
the chapter toward her expenses at IU.
