Sponsor Spotlight: May 2009
Bill Oliver, president and director of winemaking, Oliver Winery
How long have you been in business in Bloomington?
The winery was established in 1972, but I was not involved full time until 1983 after graduating from the Indiana University School of Business. I did work here earlier but there is only so much you can get out of a 12-year-old!
Describe your business and the services or products you offer.
We grow grapes and make wine. Sales are through our tasting room north of Bloomington and wholesale distribution in 14 states.
What do you like most about living and having a business in Bloomington/Monroe County?
Bloomington is a special community. For its size, no city can match the offerings — sports, music, performing arts, restaurants, etc. Oliver Winery is, of course, part of this mix. This town is a great place to live for all of these reasons. You can’t forget the beauty of our city and countryside, too. If we just had a 12,000-foot mountain right outside of town, it would be perfect.
Are you an IU graduate? If so, when did you graduate? Degree?
BS’83, MBA’93.
Fondest IU memory?
Meeting a gorgeous and intelligent woman from California at an IU orientation party. I later married her.
Why did you choose to be a corporate sponsor of the Monroe County Chapter of the IUAA?
To support, strengthen and build relationships with Indiana University and its graduates.
