St. Joseph County Wins Most-Improved Chapter

The St. Joseph County Chapter of the IUAA has been recognized by the IUAA as its “Most Improved Chapter.” St. Joseph County was selected from over 100 chapters worldwide and will receive the award at the IU Alumni Chapter Leaders Conference in Bloomington this June.

“I’m truly honored that our local chapter has been selected for this prestigious award,” said Chapter President Tim Batalis, “I believe it’s a reflection of our efforts to provide a high level of programming and service for our 13,000 plus IU alumni in St. Joseph County. We’ve been very active.”

Through numerous activities and events each year, IU alumni chapters provide IU graduates with numerous opportunities to network, assist their local communities, socialize, and recruit top students to IU.

St. Joseph County Chapter Sponsors Freshmen Send-Off

The St. Joseph County Chapter of the IUAA hosted IU alumni, their families, and incoming freshmen and their parents, at a pizza party "send-off" to the Bloomington campus. The purpose of the send-off was to acquaint this fall’s freshmen and their parents with other freshman and their parents, and with local IU alumni.

The St. Joseph Chapter announced the recipients of its $750 scholarships for 2008-09: Jennifer Lindsay, Penn High School; and Dylan Cunningham, Mishawaka High School.

Jennifer plans to study at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs and also to study Spanish. Dylan will study pre-med. The major source of the St. Joseph County Chapter’s scholarship funding is the annual Alumni Scholarship Golf Outing, which took place on June 9 at South Bend Country Club.

A drawing of gift certificates donated by the St. Joseph County Chapter and T.I.S. Bookstore-Bloomington, was held. Six students won $100 T.I.S. Bookstore gift certificates: Patrick Asdell, Paige Manley, Tyler Oswald, Kristie Salinas, Alison Schweizer, and Emily Tribbett.

In addition, Bryan Messersmith, an IU Bloomington junior and Riley High School graduate, presented some tips for a successful freshman year. Echoes of the IU Fight Song and Hail to Old IU could be heard at the conclusion of the event.
