West Central completes two IU Cares Day projects
The West Central Chapter of the IUAA
participated in two projects on IU Cares Day, Saturday, April 19. Many thanks go to West Central’s Chris Potts, who organized both projects. Chris also provided a cookout for students on both teams and for Jen Goins’s team when they returned from a project in Gary.
One team spent most of the day at the Hanna Center in Lafayette, a community center that provides afterschool, summer care, and recreational activities for children and seniors. Students painted the large recreation room at Hanna and organized the food and game pantry. Hanna director Angela Ferguson was very appreciative.
Doug Taylor, director of Habitat for Humanity in Lafayette, was also impressed. Despite mud galore and an off and on drizzle, the Habitat team raked out the dirt around two houses, removed loose brush and burned it, and picked up the trash that littered the lots, widened both driveways and added new stone, and cleaned all the mud off of the driveway and sidewalks to the houses.
The students capped off their visit with a resounding rendition of "IU FIGHT", with everyone joining in. Thanks again to Chris Potts and the 20-some students from Bloomington who made IU Cares Day so special.
