Founders Day
Founders Day ceremonies have evolved over the years. In 1949, the observances included a procession to the grave of IU's first president, Andrew Wylie (pictured), where a wreath-laying ceremony took place. This tradition continued sporadically until 1995.
Founders Day is a reminder of the university's impressive history and an opportunity to honor outstanding students and faculty members. Held each spring at IU Bloomington, Founders Day brings students' families to campus for a ceremony and other events. The IU Alumni Association works with the Office of University Ceremonies to plan and prepare for Founders Day festivities.
For more information, please see the Office of University Ceremonies Founders Day page and the calendar of forthcoming official ceremonies.
