Why I chose IU
The mermaid fountain. I love the Little Mermaid. But, seriously, the academic programs and the fact that IU had just founded and created the GLBT Student Support Services Office. Doug and Carol were just an extra bonus.
Favorite memories of IU
My partner Tom and I spent our first year together at IU nearly 14 years ago. I look around IU and there are so many memories and people we love. I could talk about the "International House Drag Queen Coffee" event, Doug and Carol, working on my first book with (Assistant Dean of Students) Pam Freeman. The list goes on. However, the very first program I ever volunteered to do was "Love Makes A Family." It was a photo exhibit of LGBT families. I find it fitting today to know that is how it all started and what I cherish as a memory the most. IU provided my family with a foundation of love.
Advice for GLBT students
You hear it all the time: Make the most out of your time at IU. Leave the campus better in some way because you were there. IU needs LGBT and ally students who have passion to change the world.
Why the GLBTAA is important to me
Visibility. My undergraduate alma mater does not have a GLBTAA. IU needs to know there are LGBT and ally alumni who are out there. Together and visible we are strong.
