Keystones of Excellence

Membership — Membership Matters!

Alumni chapters play an important role in promoting membership in the IU Alumni Association and sharing the benefits of being associated with other alumni, the IUAA, and the university in general. A portion of every IUAA member's dues supports the local chapter. The more IUAA members a chapter has in its area, the more programming dollars the chapter leadership has to develop events and activities. Programming ideas in this Keystone of Excellence include:

• Promote membership (including the discounted membership offer) at all chapter events.
• Host a special welcome event for recent graduates to your area.
• Establish member/non-member pricing for chapter events.
• Write membership into chapter's mission statement.
• Include membership messages in all chapter communications (e-mail and print).
• Highlight members on chapter Web site or in mailings.
• With the help of the IUAA Membership Department, develop membership strategies and/or a special membership campaign targeting non-members in the chapter area.
• Ensure that every chapter board member or officer is a current Annual or Lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association.
