Distinguished Alumni Award

Purpose:

The Continuing Studies Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually by the School of Continuing Studies Alumni Association (SCSAA) to an alumnus of the School who has distinguished him/herself through outstanding service to the public and/or Indiana University.

Eligibility:

  1. Any alumnus of the School of Continuing Studies is eligible, excluding active members of the School of Continuing Studies Alumni Association Board.
  2. The nominee shall have made significant contributions to his/her community, state, nation, and/or Indiana University.

Nominations:

  1. Nominations may be submitted by:
    • any member of the SCS Alumni Association
    • any current or former IU faculty or staff member
    • any current or former IU student
    • any alumnus of Indiana University.
  2. All nominations must be made in writing and include only the following:
    • Completed nomination form
    • One-page resume or biographical data sheet (may be double-sided) indicating the nature of the outstanding service to the nominee’s community, state, nation, and/or Indiana University.
  3. Regular SCS alumni award nominations must be used and may be obtained from the IU Alumni Association, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN, 47408-1521; (800) 824-3044 or (812) 855-4822.
  4. Nominations must be submitted in a sealed envelope and postmarked not later than December 31 to be considered for the ensuing calendar year.
  5. All nominations should be addressed to: IU Alumni Association, Continuing Studies Alumni Award, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN, 47408-1521.
  6. All nominations will remain in effect for three consecutive years after which time they may be resubmitted.

Selection Committee:

  1. The selection committee shall consist of three (3) board members appointed by the President of the Board of the School of Continuing Studies Alumni Association, to serve for one year. One of the three members will serve as the committee chair. Appointees to the committee shall remain anonymous with the exception of the committee chair.
  2. The Dean of the School of Continuing Studies, or designee, shall be given the opportunity to review the committee’s three finalists for the award.
  3. It shall be the duty of the selection committee to make the final selection of the award recipient and to make such recommendation to the executive board of the SCS Alumni Association.

Award:

  1. The award shall be presented at an appropriate time and place within the calendar year.
  2. The recipient’s name shall be inscribed on a permanent plaque located in the office of the Dean of the School of Continuing Studies (Bloomington) and a plaque will be presented to the recipient.
  3. More than one award may be presented if it is deemed appropriate to do so by the selection committee. If no qualified nominee exists in a given year, no award shall be presented.
