More information: We have moved the date for CICIUAA’s “IU Cares Week Project” to Saturday, April 26. We will be working outdoors (rain or shine). Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended. The event will be held downtown at the America Legion Mall inbetween Meridian and Pennsylvania Streets. Volunteers are not required to stay the entire time, but must make a prior request to leave early. Back to top

Project: Joint Book Drive of the Lakeshore Region Chapter of the IUAA, the IU Northwest Alumni Association, and the Neal-Marshall Alumni Club of Northwest Indiana

More information: Three alumni organizations have joined together to collect new or used books as their project for IU Cares Month. Donate your new or gently used books, for all age and grade levels, at one of the collection bin sites listed above. Student Alumni Association members from both IU Northwest and IU Bloomington will sort the collected books to be distributed to local nursery, grade, and high schools as well as family and domestic shelters. This event is being held as a fundraiser for the first time ever, but raising money is not a requirement to participate! Monroe County

The Monroe County Chapter of the IUAA will host a special Community Service Volunteer Fair on Thursday, April 10, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the DeVault Alumni Center, 1000 E. 17th St. (across from IU's Assembly Hall). Free parking adjacent to the building and across the street.

Local community groups, clubs, and not-for-profit agencies will have booths with information available to local IU alumni and friends seeking volunteer opportunities in the Bloomington area. This is a great opportunity for alumni to learn about different groups, give back to the community, and get involved as a local volunteer.

Alumni attending the fair will have an opportunity to win special prizes including a weekend getaway, restaurant gift certificates, gift baskets, and more!

Project: Beach Cleanup and Family Potluck Picnic

More information: Beach cleanup in partnership with I Love A Clean San Diego. 9-12 and pot-luck picnic on the beach afterwards. Chapter will provide burgers, hot dogs, plates, utensils. You bring side dish, chips, dessert and your own drinks. RSVP to to receive map, waiver and directions.

More information: We will be helping with a local Habitat project – hopefully helping to build/finish a house – the weather has not cooperated recently , so specifics are difficult to come by at this time. More details in weeks to come. Students should wear layered and old clothing and hard-soled shoes. Work gloves are helpful as well. No need for anyone to go out and buy steel-toed boots, but no flip flops or sandals.

Project: Assist Hanna Community Center

More information: This will be inside work helping to organize storage areas and possibly some light cleaning, so cool comfortable old clothing would likely be best. Also inventory work, organizing supply areas, and getting ready for an upcoming camp for kids. Once complete, other camp-related tasks could be performed and/or help at a local soup kitchen to fill the remainder of the day. Wear closed shoes, no flip flops or sandals. Back to top
