IU Cares Month Checklist & Timeline

A planning tool for your chapter’s IU Cares Month Coordinator

IMMEDIATE: Review the planning guide

NOW THROUGH JANUARY: Build your IU Cares Month Committee
Schedule some time at your next board meeting to talk about IU Cares Month and select team leaders (may be current committee chairs) who will be leading the different activities connected to this project. For details on what to discuss, turn to page 3.

JANUARY: Share information with your chapter director
Report your IU Cares project plan and details to your chapter director. Make sure to determine how many volunteers are needed so we can order t-shirts for all participants. (In-state chapters near a regional campus: this is also very important for us to know so we can coordinate our student teams from all campuses.) We want to post all information about all chapter projects on our IU Cares Month Web site.

JANUARY – FEBRUARY: Develop a strategy to include other Keystones of Excellence in your project (student recruitment/ diversity/ lifelong learning, etc.)
See examples on page 5. Work with your chapter director if you need data or assistance from another unit on campus (for example, Admissions, Hoosiers for Higher Education (HHE)).

FEBRUARY – MARCH: Submit information about your project to local media
Send information about your project to local papers, news stations, and radio stations. In-state chapters, consider inviting local legislators to participate. (Chapters can work with HHE’s Debbie Sibbitt to extend invitations to promote your IU Cares Day.) Promote! Promote! Promote!

APRIL: Carry out your IU Cares project!

BY MAY 15, 2008: Share your chapter’s success!
After your IU Cares Month project and related activities are over, complete and submit the IU Cares Month Success Form.

MAY: Celebrate!
Celebrate and thank your members for your IU Cares Month Accomplishments!
