Distinguished Latino Alumni Award Criteria
Purpose
The purpose of the Distinguished Latino Alumni Award is to provide recognition for outstanding achievements by the Latina/o women and men of Indiana University.
Eligibility for Award
- Only living alumni of Indiana University are eligible. For purposes of definition, an alumnus is any person who shall have graduated from any of the schools or campuses of Indiana University.
- The nominee shall have been outstanding in his/her chosen field of endeavor; and/or
- The nominee shall have made significant contributions benefiting his/her community, state, nation, or university.
Nature of the Award
The award shall consist of a plaque.
Nominations
- Nominations may be submitted by: (1) any school of Indiana University; (2) any alumnus of Indiana University; and (3) any faculty or staff member of Indiana University.
- All nominations must be in writing and accompanied by a brief rationale for nomination and current contact information.
- Regular nomination blanks should be used and may be secured from the Web site.
- Nominations must be submitted by e-mail (latinoaa
indiana.edu)
or in a sealed envelope and postmarked no later than midnight,
April 2. - All nominations shall be addressed to: Latino Alumni Association, 1000 E. 17th St., Bloomington, IN 47408.
- All nominations for the award will automatically be continued in force for the following four successive years. After that they may be resubmitted.
Selection of Recipients
- The DLAA committee shall be made up of five members. There will be three LAA members, including one board member who serves as chair with voting privileges. The president of LAA will appoint the chair. The previous award winner will be a member, along with a member selected from the faculty or staff of Indiana University. The faculty or staff member will be selected by the board of LAA. This committee maintains the integrity of the nomination process and selects the award recipient. Each member of the committee shall serve a minimum term of one to a maximum of five years.
- It shall be the duty of the Latino Alumni Awards Committee to make final selection of those to receive the award.

Recipients
- The Latino Alumni Association strongly suggests the awards be made to individuals in as many fields of endeavor as possible (education, law, medicine, business, science, music, etc.).
- The recipient must be present to receive the award. If the recipient cannot be present, the award will go to the alternate.
Presentation
The awards shall be given at the Latino Alumni Luncheon during Fall Latino Alumni Reunion Weekend. The recipients shall be announced shortly before that date.
