Nominations Sought for Distinguished Latino Alumni Award
Latino Alumni Association

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2005 Distinguished Latino Alumni Award. Nominations are due by April 1, 2005 and can be submitted via our website at:
http://www.iub.edu/~latinoaa/

The purpose of the Distinguished Latino Alumni Award is to provide recognition for outstanding achievements by the Latina/o men and women of Indiana University. Only living alumni of Indiana University are eligible. Nominees shall have been outstanding in his/her chosen field of endeavor and/or shall have made significant contributions benefiting his/her community, state, nation, or university.

Nominations may be submitted by any school of Indiana University, any alumnus of Indiana University, and any faculty or staff member of Indiana University.

Applications for LAA Undergraduate Scholarship Due by March 1st
Latino Alumni Association

The LAA reminds all interested students that applications for the Latino Alumni Association Undergraduate Scholarship are due by March 1st.

The purpose of the Latino Alumni Association Undergraduate Scholarship ("scholarship") is to award and recognize students who are prepared academically, involved in their community, exhibit leadership qualities benefiting the Latino community and work to foster an appreciation of the Latino experience in the United States.

Call for Nominations: LAA Board of Directors
Latino Alumni Association

The Elections Committee of the Latino Alumni Association (LAA) is accepting nominations for the board of directors, term beginning September 2005.

Positions to Be Slated

Officer Positions
• President
• Vice President
• Secretary
• Treasurer

At Large Board Member
• 6 positions open

All terms are two years in length.

Rules of Nomination

• Nominees must be members in good standing of the Latino Alumni Association.
• Nominations must be received by May 1, 2005.
• Self-nominations are acceptable and encouraged.
• Nominations should be submitted through our website using the on-line nomination form and shall include the following:
• Name of the person submitting the nomination
• Name, address and telephone number of the nominee
• Principle occupation or employment of the nominee
• Class year and degree, if known by the nominator
• Any other information about the nominee that the nominator deems relevant
• Once a nomination is received, the nominee's willingness and ability to serve will be confirmed by personal communication with the nominee. The nominee will also be furnished with the expectations and requirements of board service.
• If a nominee is ineligible to be a part of the slate, the nominee will be informed of the reason for ineligibility and be given seven days to resolve the issue in ineligibility. In any case, the ineligibility must be cured before June 1st.

2005 Election Calendar:
February 1 - Call for nominations
May 1 - Deadline for nominations
June 15 - Slate presented, voting begins
August 1 - Last day for votes
August 15 - Results announced

Call for Nominations: LAA Board of Directors
Latino Alumni Association

The 6th Annual Indiana University Latina/o Annual Leadership Conference will be held on the IUB campus on March 5, 2005. The theme of this year's conference is "Latino Leadership, Endless Possibilities." The mission of the Indiana University Latina/o Leadership Conference is to celebrate the uniqueness of Latina/o students in a forum by and for students. This forum seeks to cultivate the exchange of ideas, values, and beliefs in order to promote scholarship, development, and empowerment of Indiana's college and high school Latina/os.

Our goal is to provide an atmosphere that will challenge and assure the continuation of the human spirit to cultivate the Latino students in Indiana to be equipped to become tomorrow's leaders. Listed below are several categories which we offer to help stimulate your thoughts for a focus to your workshop or session. These are guides and not parameters. The unique aspect of this conference is the opportunity to shape the future manana by molding and informing our youth hoy about leadership, community, educational and cultural issues, career development, technology, and current issues.

Workshops
• Emphasis is on demonstration, audience participation as opposed to lecture and discussion.
• The conference theme should be included in your proposal.
• Engaging activities and interactive group learning opportunities are desired by the participants.
• Allow time for questions and comments from the audience.

Papers
• Submit proposals to present class term papers or research papers
• The paper should include the following: introduction; purpose(s) or objective(s); citations/references/data sources and conclusion.
• The paper that is presented should be approximately 6-10 pages, double-spaced.

Please limit your workshop or session is scheduled for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Each proposal must be postmarked no later than February 11, 2005 are guaranteed for the review process.
