The national conversation on Nebraska’s entrance into the Big Ten has focused on athletics and particularly football, given the Cornhuskers’ well-earned reputation as a powerhouse program with a large and loyal fan base.

People talked about travel and television markets, the potential for new athletic revenues, and the new rivalries that would form as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln became the Big Ten’s 12th member and first addition since Penn State University joined the league in 1990.
