Historical Marker Honors IU’s Original Home
Area located blocks from current campus was IU’s home in 1800s

A ceremony on Aug. 26 unveiled and dedicated a state historical marker at the original site of Indiana University. The area now known as Seminary Square Park in Bloomington — at Second Street and College Avenue, several blocks southwest of where the campus is today — was home to the institution beginning in 1825, the first year of classes. A fire in 1883 led IU to move to its current location in 1884.
