- Richard C. MacGill (’51) writes that he and his wife, Dorothy (Allen), BA'52, recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. MacGill adds, "We are both long retired, of course, but happy grandparents of 12 and (at last) great grandparents of one. Ain't it interesting what we all brag about these days?" MacGill asks "other survivors" from the early '50s to contact him at rmacgill@sbcglobal.net.
- Will Shortz (BA’74) writes, "In May, I opened the Westchester Table Tennis Center in Pleasantville, N.Y. With 18 tables and more than 13,000 square feet, I believe it is the largest dedicated table tennis facility in the country. Details and photos are available at westchestertabletennis.com." Shortz, who is the crossword editor for The New York Times, lives in Pleasantville.
- Michelle T. Boone (BA’83, MPA’98) was appointed in May by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel to be commissioner of the City of Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. The department presents and promotes free festivals, exhibitions, performances, and holiday celebrations each year in parks and other venues throughout the city. Most recently, Boone was the senior program officer for culture at the Joyce Foundation in Chicago, responsible for distributing funding to arts and cultural institutions in major Midwestern cities. She serves on the board of numerous arts organizations and has been a reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts, the Illinois Arts Council, and the Cuyahoga (Ohio) Arts and Culture program, among others. Prior to the Joyce Foundation, Boone was the director of Gallery 37, an arts-focused job-training program for Chicago youth. Earlier in her career, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Chad, Africa. Boone lives in Chicago.
- Christopher D. Compton (BAJ’95) writes, "I graduated with honors from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, R.I., in June, earning an MA in national security and strategic studies. Additionally, I was promoted to lieutenant colonel on Aug. 1 and selected to command 2nd Battalion, 2nd Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Sill, Okla."
- Allison Stolper Hearne (BAJ’06) married Mike Hearne, BS'06, in June. Allison is a senior interactive marketing planner at General Mills in Minneapolis and manages the website eatbetteramerica.com. Mike is currently completing work on an MBA from Harvard Business School and plans to graduate in May. The couple lives in Minneapolis.
