Why I chose IU
My military experience as a medic with the 187th Airborne during the Korean War taught me I needed more than a high school education. The G.I. Bill made it possible for me to attend an in-state college. Indiana University offered me the opportunity to get a four-year degree debt-free.
Favorite memories of IU
One memory would be the several times I met Hermie (Herman) Wells and realizing that, in Herman, I met everything Indiana University represented. Dr. Wells was Indiana University. Other memories included “study, study, study,” riding in the Little 500 bicycle race for three years, being selected to the Indiana University Student Foundation, and graduating with 160 hours (without any summer school) in four years.
Advice to undergraduates
Stay positive every day of your life. Run from pessimism — be it circumstances or people. Answer, immediately, negatives. Stay away from physical- and mental-altering substances.
Why the IU Alumni Association is important to me
The Indiana University Alumni Association has significance, as it represents roots and branches of a continued lifelong tie with my fellow IU alumni. How wonderful are my memories, how pleasant are my thoughts today.
