Why I chose IU
I had my first IU experience when I was in high school, through my participation in Junior Achievement. JA held its national conferences in Bloomington, so I got to visit IU early on and I loved what I saw — the atmosphere and beauty of the campus and the reputation of the business school. Even though I was an out-of-state student, I knew that IU was a friendly environment where I could build new friendships and succeed.
Favorite memories of IU
My time at IU was an uninterrupted, four-year favorite memory. Looking back, I can’t believe how much time I spent in student activities and leadership roles. It was hard work, but it was also a lot of fun — and it taught me more about leadership and about my own capabilities than any textbook ever could. But my greatest memory from IU is the people I got to know — the guys from my residence hall, friends from the business school, student-government folks, and administrators and faculty who mentored me. Many of my closest friends today are from my time at IU.
Advice to undergraduates
Learn from the activities you participate in and the people you meet, not just from what happens in the classroom. Use your time at IU to try new things and find out what you really like to do. And don’t just be satisfied with “the way things are.” Develop a vision for something better, and lead people to achieve it.
Why the IU Alumni Association is important to me
IU has played a key role in my life, and the Alumni Association allows me to give something back. The IUAA has enabled me to mentor current students on leadership and careers, and to help others understand just how special the university is. The IUAA has also kept me connected with old and new friends around the world, and with the university itself. It has kept me in the IU family.
