The Use (and Abuse) of Executive Stock Option Grants

Professor Heron's research has been instrumental in discovering that many corporations were backdating executive stock option grants to inflate executive compensation packages. This backdating of option grants has often been referred to as the biggest corporate scandal since the implosion of Enron. Hundreds of companies are currently under investigation for backdating and many have already restated financial statements. Professor Heron speaks about how academic researchers uncovered the practice and the steps that are being taken to prevent such practices in the future.
