Indiana University honors five students with senior awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Five Indiana University Bloomington students were honored for academic excellence and outstanding leadership at the annual Spring Recognition Banquet on April 17.

- Kieran Farr, of Indianapolis, who studied telecommunications and business with a concentration in marketing;
- Sarah King, of Columbus, Ind., who studied journalism and political science;
- D'Andre May, of Grand Prairie, Texas, who studied computer information systems and business with a concentration in management and who also received the Jerry F. Tardy Memorial Scholarship;
- Matthew Mindrum, of West Lafayette, Ind., who studied music, vocal performance; and
- Scott Shackelford, of Greenwood, Ind., who studied economics and political science.
All five graduated from IU Bloomington in May 2005.
The Elvis J. Stahr Distinguished Senior Award was established in 1966 by Stahr, Indiana University's 12th president. The award honors three to five seniors who have excelled academically while serving as active student leaders. The names of the recipients are added to a permanent plaque that hangs in the Indiana Memorial Union at IUB.
The Elvis J. Stahr Distinguished Senior Awards were presented by Kenneth R.R. Gros Louis, IU Bloomington chancellor and interim senior vice president for academic affairs. The Jerry F. Tardy Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to the president of the Student Alumni Association at IU Bloomington. This $2,500 scholarship honors the memory of Jerry F. Tardy, who served as president and CEO of the IU Alumni Association from 1987 until his death in 2001 and was a champion of student programs. The first Jerry F. Tardy Memorial Scholarship was presented in 2003.
The Spring Recognition Banquet is sponsored by the Student Alumni Association at IU Bloomington and IUB's Office of the Chancellor.
