FAQ

I live outside of the Bloomington area, can I still host?
Dinner sites must be in Bloomington. If you live outside of Bloomington, consider co-hosting a dinner at another person’s home or at a local restaurant. Dinner organizers at IU will help match co-hosts depending on availability. The co-hosts then decide how to share all aspects of the preparation, serving, cleanup and costs of the meal.

My house is too small for 12 guests. What are my options?
If you can’t seat 12, how about six? You can choose how many people you’d like at your dinner depending on the size of your home and the style of your meal. There is no set format. Afraid you’ll run out of chairs? Make it a picnic theme and spread blankets on the floor. If you are unable to host in your home, there are alternative options. We are happy to help coordinate a space in IU's historical Woodburn House as available. Be creative!

I don’t like to cook.
Students are happy with any free food. Some hosts create delicious homemade meals, while others choose to pick up party platters. If cooking isn’t your forte, we are happy to order food for your event - we can select a menu or work with you to create something together.

I work until 6 p.m. Can the dinner begin later?
Your dinner can begin at any time. While 6 p.m. is the default start time, you may choose to begin earlier or later, keeping in mind that a typical dinner could last three to four hours.

I am interested in hosting! Who should I contact for more information or to arrange a date?
