High Ropes at Retreat

The LeaderShape® Institute

Member Retreat

Hey, you crazy Hoosiers!

Just want to take a minute to let you all know a little about the Leadership Development area of SAA. Our main goal is to offer and enhance leadership opportunities for students. Our two main projects that coincide with this goal are LeaderShape and MemberCorps.

MemberCorps offers students an opportunity to receive academic credit (one or two credit hours as R100) while learning more about the history and traditions of IU, the mission and purpose of SAA, and team-building exercises. We hold our "classes" all over IU and really try to give the students a feel for the whole campus. There is also a weekend-long member retreat (Friday night through Sunday morning), which MemberCorps students have been eager to be a part of in the past. The program is a fun way to meet new people, learn about IU, get involved on campus, and even boost your GPA. In the words of MemberCorps graduate/superstar Amanda Stahl, "It is a great way to meet new people and learn about the Alumni Association, as well as enhance your leadership skills."

Our other main project, LeaderShape, is a national institute that instills leadership and teamwork skills in its participants. Each year, IU coordinates a weeklong retreat in Indiana in conjunction with the national institute. It is totally free to students and is a great chance to meet some new people and learn a little bit about yourself.

We also organize SAA’s intramural teams; another great way to get involved. Our intramurals are just for fun, but we can get pretty into it, too (see our back to back titles in Whiffleball!).

Hope to see you around the Alumni Center,

Vice President, Leadership Development
