MemberCorps Fall 2009 Online Application

General Information

What is MemberCorps?
The MemberCorps program is a class offered by the Student Alumni Association, in conjunction with the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation. Students have the option to enroll in R180 and earn academic credit for their participation. The "class" is much more than a typical academic experience! It will involve students in campus traditions, build leadership and teamwork skills, and create a community of friends and spirit.

Why should you apply?
You are part of our IU community and the most important thing you can do is get involved! In addition to your studies, some of the most important learning of your college career happens outside the classroom. MemberCorps is an opportunity to learn about IU, plan events, have leadership opportunities, attend social activities, and more. This unique opportunity will plug you into IU and a fun group of people right away!

How do I apply?
Anyone interested is strongly encouraged to find out more at an upcoming meeting or event:

7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14 — Call-out
Teter NST

7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15 — Call-out

7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 — Call-out

An overview of the program will be presented and past participants and SAA leaders will be able to answer questions. If you are unable to attend a meeting, e-mail with questions or your application.

FAQ

Do I have to take MemberCorps for credit?
No. While we strongly encourage all participants to take advantage of earning academic credit, it is not required. Course materials and requirements apply to those earning credit. If you do not enroll in the class, you will still be expected to attend and participate in all sessions, meet with an advisor, and participate in SAA activities.

Do I need to register/sign-up for R180 during orientation or online?
No. MemberCorps and R180 is a special section that is not offered as an option during registration. Once you apply and are accepted to the program, we will provide you with instructions on how to officially register for the class. No fees will be charged for adding the class after your initial registration.

Is there a cost to register/enroll?
If you take R180 for credit, standard tuition rates apply (rates vary depending upon individual circumstances). There is no special elective fee and there is no late registration fee to add the class.

No books are listed at the bookstores. What materials will be needed for the class?
All readings are available online. To be eligible for the course, you need to be a member of SAA. You can sign up online, at the Resource Center during freshman orientation, or by visiting the SAA offices. SAA membership includes a discount card, SAA T-shirt, and more.

Are there other costs that I should know about?
Part of the MemberCorps program includes an overnight retreat at Bradford Woods. The cost of this retreat will be $50 and include accommodations, food, and supplies for the retreat. Scholarship opportunities will be available.
