Senior Tree Dedication

Senior Tree

Students with Senior Tree

The Senior Tree is a memento from the graduating class to Indiana University symbolizing the friendships and experiences students have enjoyed and the contributions the class has made during its years at IU. Join your class in dedicating this tree to the beautification of the Bloomington campus and to the significance of your involvement at Indiana University.

The Student Alumni Association is proud to continue the senior tree tradition in honor of each graduating class by coordinating the annual senior tree dedication ceremony.

History

The first senior tree was dedicated by the Class of 1873. It is a maple tree located southwest of the Rose Well House. The tree dedication ceremonies were intended to beautify the campus and were continued through World War II.

There were no trees dedicated during the 1950s, nor were there trees dedicated by the senior classes of 1963, 1964, and 1965. The tree dedication ceremony was reinstituted in 1966 and has continued to this day as a way to remember and commemorate each senior class.

I have more questions about the Senior Tree Dedication and/or am interested in helping with the planning. Who should I contact?
