Every spring, the IU Mini Marathon and 5K Run/Walk brings the community together for a great cause: running and walking to support scholarships for IU students who have survived cancer. In 2012, more than 1,500 runners and walkers hit the streets of Bloomington for the sixth annual event.

Kevin MacCauley, Myles Grote, and Samantha Roper (all BS’07) started the IU Mini Marathon in 2006 while they were students at the IU Kelley School of Business. The event honors Bill Littlefield, a Kelley School faculty member who succumbed in 2005 to mesothelioma, a rare cancer caused by asbestos exposure.

In just seven years, the Mini has raised more than $100,000 for the Bill Littlefield Cancer Survivors Scholarship Fund, and has become the unofficial kickoff to a month of exciting IU traditions, including Little 500, Little 50, and Senior Salute.
