Woodburn House Restorations

Sofa Sofa
This sofa, a tradition in the homes of Dr. Wells, was recently reupholstered and the wood restored with monies donated to the Woodburn Guild.

DESCRIPTION:
Sofa. Front lion's paw feet, with eagles' wings above. Cresting piece features a scroll with flame veneer. Recently reupholstered.

MATERIALS AND DIMENSIONS:
35 ½ inches in height. 22 inches in depth. 82 inches in length. Mahogany solids and veneers.

COUNTRY AND LOCALITY OF ORIGIN; DATE OF CREATION; ATTRIBUTION:
American in origin. Maker or manufacturer unknown. Empire Revival Style of the 1880's.


Tea Set Tea Service
The tea service, given by James A. Woodburn to his wife, on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary is now on display at the Woodburn House. Monies from the Woodburn Guild help to keep the tea service in excellent condition.

DESCRIPTION:
Tea and coffee service: all engraved "Woodburn November thirtieth 1893-1918". All are marked as sterling silver, and manufactured by the Gorham Silver Company.

Coffeepot: 1 3/8 Pint
Teapot: 1 3/4 Pint; 8 1/4 inches in height
Sugarer/Creamer: 3/8 Pint
Finials and handles are ebonywood.
Cigarette box: engraved "W"; marked as sterling silver; made in Birmingham, England, by M&E; 1 3/8 inches in height, 3 1/4 inches in width, 3 1/4 inches in depth.


Grandfather Clock Clock
The grandfather clock, which was always on display in the entry of Dr. Wells' homes, is now in working condition. Woodburn Guild funding provided for the cost of restoration.

DESCRIPTION:
Grandfather clock. Broken pediment cresting piece, with center and side spike finials. Closed trunk. No maker's mark found. Roman numerals.

MATERIALS AND DIMENSIONS:
96 inches in height. 19 ½ inches in width. 11 ¼ inches in depth. Heavily stained cherry. Pine secondary wood.

COUNTRY AND LOCALITY OF ORIGIN; DATE OF CREATION; ATTRIBUTION:
American in origin. Maker or manufacturer unknown. Probably created in the 19th Century.
